Twitter

Okay, one day, I knew I would write a somewhat geeky post about computers, the internet, etc. Well, today’s the day.

So, for all of you who don’t know, Twitter is essentially a social networking platform designed to link people closer together. Sorry if that sounded a little cheesy. Twitter is made for those little things that people might want to know about, between your blog posts, emails, phone calls, and physical contact (gasp!). When I’m drinking tea at midnight, I don’t think anyone would want me to send them an email or call them to say, “I’m drinking tea.” If you do, I can only say get a life. But, what if people are interested in those little things, they want to know what you’re up to, what you’re thinking, and how life is going for you.

First, find some people you’re interested in. You might find that some of your friends are on Twitter! You can “follow” your friends by clicking the “Follow” button their profile page. You will then receive their “tweets,” or updates, whenever you visit Twitter. If you want you can comment on something someone said.

When you first begin, it’ll feel kind of pointless. Or at least it did for me. If you use it enough, you’ll begin to realize the great value of this connection between friends, and you’ll soon make friends with people you met just on Twitter.

And finally, and most importantly, you need to follow me. ;)

Here’s an excellent video tutorial on Twitter by Lee LeFever and the folks over at CommonCraft.com.
